You Know What Would Be Refreshing?

If the next time one of these assholes who gets caught with his pants down does his obligatory, lame, public apology, his wife was NOT standing by his side.

In fact, I'd really love it if said wife would issue her own, separate public statement that said something like: "I regret that I will not be able to be at today's press conference, as I'd love to have the opportunity to tell you how I feel about the events that have recently come to light. However, considering the act of betrayal that has just been uncovered, my first priority is moving myself and my daughters out of the Governor's Mansion and meeting with a divorce lawyer."

What is wrong with these women?

Seriously, even if the marriage can be "saved," wouldn't it be perfectly understandable if the wife chose not to stand next to her husband while he admitted to being an asshole?

You missing the fact that famous, powerful and especially political people are "handled" and have to protect the brand.
People have been unfaithful to their spouses since the beginning of time.
I just feel sorry for the kids, they are the only ones that are truly without fault.
The husbands and wifes, who knows what the real story is.
It is amazing to me that famous/political people think they can do this kind of stuff and keep it a secret.

The wife is humiliated standing in front of that idiot. Why she has a need to humiliate herself a second time is beyond me.

The kids are humiliated.

Yet the wife agrees to sit behind him when he gives a pathetically written speech. Not to mention his stiff as a board non-remorseful demeanor. This jerk did not even show a hint of remorse.

I am not sure how the wife is at fault. There is also nothing to protect for Spitzer, he is done JUST LIKE HILLARY'S CHANCES OF BEING THE NOMINEE FOR THE DEMOCRATS!

Sorry had to get that in there. Spitzer was a superdelegate for Clinton too.

I also wonder what “unsafe” things he was requesting of prostitutes that some of them thought were out of line. Some news reports have reported on this but have not elaborated on the unsafe procedures requested.

Don't get me wrong. He is a govt official and broke the law. I hold them to a higher standard. I'm not saying the wife should be humiliated. My point was no one knows what goes on between married people. What if they had an open marriage,or she knew he was a louse but liked being connected to a power person with all the perks.
The bad thing about prostitutes and infidelity is the potential for the unsuspecting partner to get a horrible disease.
I just think as adults we make choices and get to pick paths, but kids don't.
Regardless, sad all the way around.

Tash made a good point last night.

The children are probably the only ones really affected by this bonehead.

She said the wife probably knew he was messing around, but just does not care now nor did she in the past because of the high profile big money life she gets to live.

Kind of like Tony Soprano's wife Carmela she knew he was cheating but for some reason she just blocked it out (except for a few episodes) and did not care.

Hence the wife standing beside him not looking extremely distraught. She had more of a stoic look.

I don't think it's fair to assume his wife a) knew he was fooling around and b) was OK with it. That's my anonymous commenter's favorite excuse whenever something like this is made public. I'm sure it's true is a couple of cases, but I really don't think it's true in all cases.

And I don't think she looked stoic. I think she looked, as one news account put it, "shell shocked."

I do not think she looked shocked at all but that is just my opinion. The assumption comes from her agreement to stand behind him while he makes that humliating speech instead of taking her kids and making her way to a divorce lawyer.

Of course it is all speculation but I can not see any reason why she would subject herself to being humiliated in the public eye.

Interesting..... Will we ever know for sure, who knows, but if he's shelling out $4,300 for a tryst I doubt it was the first time.
I still feel the sorriest for the kids! I KNOW they are innocent and did not make any choices passive or otherwise.

Though I agree with you that it is frustrating, I think she was in shock and just did as she was asked by his advisors. I'll bet she'll leave his ass in the end. She probably needs private time to think of what the hell to do and how to deal with her daughters.
