In Lieu of our Regularly Scheduled Programming...

Why aren't I posting?

We got back from London on Wed eve.
I have 2 days at work to prepare for a one-day workshop I'm giving at a conference next week.
And I have to do laundry in order to pack to go to said conference Monday morning.

So, in the meantime, here's some Dave Barry to keep you amused. (Thanks to ktbuffy for reminding about his year-end round-up!)

I became aware of Dave Barry in 1970-71 when I was stationed in Panama. The Sunday Miami Herald was available at the PX. I was living in a nice apartment on base with my very young, pretty wife and my adorable daughter. He had a view of the Panama Canal and were within walking distance to the PX.

On Sunday mornings I used to walk to the PX holding the hand of my tiny, adorable daughter as we went to pick up the paper with the Sunday comics, two-day old box scores and Dave Barry. We walked very slowly enjoying the warm sun and tropic breezes.

Vonnegut's Tralfamadorians had the ability to move back in forth in time. We don't have that but we can choose to have selective memories. When I think back on Panama or whenever I read Dave Barry I choose to remember those Sunday walks with Jen.

Apparently my memory is selective and imaginative. According to other sources he did not start at the Miami Herald until the 80's.

No matter. I still love the memory of those walks. I guess it was for Prince Valiant not Dave Berry. They used to have similar hair-cuts.
