Just Say No...to Palin

Passing this along...

Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters,

We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce, the act of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become
the second-most-powerful person on the planet.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and altogether devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably
benefited from.

First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here < womensaynopalin@gmail.com
> with a succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation. Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence.

We will post your responses on a blog called "Women Against Sarah Palin," which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience. The greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your time and action.
*VIVA!*
Sincerely,

Quinn Latimer and Lyra Kilston

*PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY!* If you send this to 20 women in the next hour, you could be blessed with a country that takes your concerns seriously.
Stranger things have happened.

I think it is a good thing for women that Sara Palin is a women and was picked to be on a national ticket. It is a positive thing that politics are involving blacks and women. I look forward to the time when we won't be talking about that and just their policies.
In a perfect world feminists, women, men, anti war, animal lovers, and whoever else would get the candidates that reflected thier wish list of those they felt were qualified. But in case you haven't noticed, this isn't a perfect world.
I understand that McCain is using her and pandering to the religious right and maybe some woman. This is Politics and both sides do the things they need to to push forward their agendas. So no surprise there.
I am always disappointed with us on the left/liberal side of things how we can get our panties in a wad over stuff like this. Instead of making an issue of her being a women with women against, mothers against etc we should acknowledge that it is good John McCain picked a woman. We are glad that people are seeing women as a choice for the ticket and let that go.
Then we can talk about why John McCain and Sara Palin are not good for America. Policies and not age, sex, race, you know the things that aren't suppossed to matter.
I will not vote for this ticket but not because Sara Palin is the wrong woman, just because she is wrong!
My 2 cents for what it's worth, but I don't think it matters because I think once again we will snatch defeat from victory.

Race, gender, sexual preference should never be part of the discussion.

Here is a policy reason to vote against Palin.

I could never vote for here for many reasons but here are three:
1. She is a conservative and attempts to win people over by saying she will force religious ideals and values into our laws. This is against my belief as a human being. I am not religious so why do I have to follow her religious ideals? I am not trying to force my beliefs into law.

2. Her disregard for the rights of gay people. Religious conservatives speak of gay people as if they have a disease or look at them as sinners. Her church has some kind of program to pray the gay out of people. Ok so now you can speak of Obama and his pastor again. So it is ok to speak out against gay people, but not the almighty white man like myself. I guess I should favor this being that I am a white man, but let’s face facts here. It was not a tempestuous band of gay people creating the slave trade and wiping out natives in the American Continents. Oh well that is a whole other discussion.

3. The use of the word sin in reference to gay people. The word sin excludes them as Americans if they do not believe in God. The definition of sin is an estrangement from God. Well what if they do not believe in an existence of a God? Is it then ok to be gay? Of course not! They believe they can fix that too!!!!!!!

Why I would vote Republican? I like low taxes. I think government should be smaller. I like low government spending. Unfortunately they preach this but they no longer act.

**** Begin Extreme Left/Liberal Sarcasm
They must be right! People choose to be gay so they can be ridiculed, discriminated against, beaten, and sometimes even killed. What rebels those gays are. It must be the euphoria and pleasure of being lambasted by society. Especially in some other countries where being gay gets you the death penalty. No better pleasure than dying I say. What the hell! God is watching your every more anyway and in the face of God's destruction you choose to be gay anyway! With all that going against you… you still choose to be gay? Well I guess you must be crazy too! Break out the straitjackets! God’s work needs to be done!

That was my point. Race, gender, sexual preference should never be part of the discussion.
I also agree with your policies analysis of why voting for this ticket is a bad idea(at least for me and my American and world view).
I hope we can stick with the issues and get off the other stuff. I was just saying how when define ourselves as Blacks,Whites,Women,Man what have you against whatever it makes us weaker and easier to attack.
Go Obama/Biden!!!!
